Do I have to take the GMAT/GRE or can they be waived?

All applicants are required to take either the GMAT or the GRE.

What are the requirements for submitting my GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS scores?

All scores are submitted electronically through the ApplyYourself online application.

  • The only acceptable document for the GMAT is the "Official Test Taker Copy."
  • A copy of the "Examinee Score Report" or a screen shot is acceptable for a GRE or TOEFL exam.

Official exam results need to be provided to us directly, only if you are offered admission or if your scores will expire prior to the start of your program.

GMAT and GRE scores are valid for 5 years from the exam date.

TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for 2 years from the exam date.

If any of your exam results will expire before the start date of the program to which you are applying, you should provide your official scores to us at the time you submit your application or you will have to retake the exam.

May I submit an application without uploading my test score report?

No. An application without the required test score reports uploaded will be considered incomplete and will not be processed. Please ensure that all of the proper documentation have been successfully uploaded into the online application system before submitting your application. Remember, once you have submitted your application you cannot edit your application. In addition, the Admissions Committee will only consider documents that are included in your online application.

We do not accept official scores when you are applying to Simon Business School – only after you are admitted – and therefore will not be checking for receipt of your official scores until after an offer of admission has been made.

The only exception is for applicants applying to the Part-Time MS Medical Management program, for which test scores are optional.

May I submit a screenshot of my TOEFL/IELTS score report?

Yes. Screen shots of TOEFL/IELTS scores will be accepted as appropriate unofficial supporting documentation. Please upload a full screen shot or scanned copy of your online TOEFL/IELTS score report which includes your name and address into the online application.

If I take an exam more than once, which score(s) will be counted?

We will consider the highest overall score. We do not combine the highest verbal with the highest quantitative. Keep in mind that once you submit your application, you cannot edit your score reports.

I took my GMAT/GRE/TOEFL/IELTS again after I submitted my application. How do I provide you with my updated scores?

If your application is submitted, but “Incomplete,” and therfore not under review by the Admissions Committee, you have two options:

  • First, you can choose to have your application updated. Please contact the Admissions Office to request your updated scores to be added to your application. Your application will then not be in the application deadline round for which you had originally submitted. Instead, it will be dated with the date your changes were made and processed accordingly. As a result, you will not be guaranteed a decision by the notification date of the original round for which you had submitted.
  • Second, you can choose not to submit your new score. Your application would then stay within the application deadline for which you had originally submitted.

If your application is “Complete” and under review by the Admissions Committee, there is only one option to update your application:

  • If you are invited to interview, you may provide your updated scores to the Scheduling Coordinator or email them to noting in your email the date and time of your interview.

What are the minimum score requirements for GMAT, GRE , TOEFL, and IELTS?

Each candidate receives a holistic evaluation of the application. Simon values diversity in our student body and the Admissions Committee is actively seeking candidates who can make unique contributions during and after their study. While we do not have any test score minimums*, admission is competitive and we encourage you to review our MBA and MS selection criteria. Additionally, you can refer to our MBA and MS class profiles to learn more about our currently enrolled students.

Please note that every enrolling MBA and MS student must successfully demonstrate excellent English communication skills. We highly recommend a minimum TOEFL score of 100 with sub-scores in the mid-20s or a minimum IELTS score of 7.5 with sub scores of at least 7.

If my TOEFL/IELTS is expiring, do I need to take it again?

TOEFL/IELTS scores expire two years from the test date. We will accept your TOEFL/IELTS score, as long as you submit your application before the expiration date. Keep in mind that the application instructions ask that you upload a scanned copy of the Unofficial Score Report. If your TOEFL/IELTS score will expire soon after your application is submitted, please ensure that ETS sends an Official Score Report to you and our Admissions Office before the expiration date. If you are admitted, we will need to receive the Official Score Report. However, ETS will not send an Official Score Report to us if it has already expired.

Do I have to take the TOEFL or IELTS?

The TOEFL/IELTS exam is required for all international applicants whose native language is not English. This requirement is waived for applicants who meet the following conditions prior to matriculation at Simon:

Attended three or more years of post-secondary education taught solely in English and received a baccalaureate or master’s degree from a college or university where English was the language of instruction.

If you qualify for the waiver, in the application enter "0" in place of actual test scores, enter “01/01/1900” in place of an actual test date, and upload a document stating "I meet the TOEFL/IELTS waiver requirements" in place of actual supporting documentation.

If I qualify for a TOEFL/IELTS waiver, can I submit an InitialView interview?

Yes. We strongly encourage applicants to complete the InitialView interview and writing sample. While this is not a required component of the application, it is an excellent way to add another dimension to your candidacy that the Simon Admissions Committee will use as part of the holistic review of your application.

If I took the TOEFL before, do I have to take it again?

If you do not qualify for a waiver but have taken the TOEFL within the last two years, you will need to have your TOEFL scores released to us (code 7260). If your scores can no longer be released, you will need to retake the test. The test should be taken as early as possible to ensure that your scores are received in time to be associated with your application. Normally, TOEFL scores will not be released if they are older than two years.

How long is my GRE score valid?

  • For individuals testing on or after July 1, 2016, GRE test scores are valid for five years after your test administration date. For example, scores for a test taken on July 3, 2016, are reportable through July 2, 2021.
  • For individuals who tested between August 1, 2011, and June 30, 2016, GRE test scores are valid for five years after the testing year in which you tested (as indicated in the GRE Information and Registration Bulletin from that testing year). For example, scores for a test taken on May 15, 2015, are reportable through June 30, 2020.
  • GRE scores earned in July 2011 are reportable until July 31, 2016.
